Beef Northwest is surrounded by hardworking, diligent employees, and Jesse Melendez, the feeding and maintenance supervisor at the Nyssa, OR location, follows suit. His dedication as an employee, is similar to his enthusiasm as a father, coach, and community leader.
Youth development is an extremely important passion for Jesse, as he devotes his spare time as a volunteer coach for youth sports, including football, basketball and baseball. For the past five years he has also been an assistant coach for the Nyssa School District. In addition to coaching, Jesse drives the school bus for Nyssa High School students that are taking college courses. Although this is a paid position, he donates all funds back to the Nyssa Athletics Department… proving his dedication to the youth in his community. His efforts have been recognized by all, as he was awarded the Parent of the Month Award in 2010 from the Nyssa School District.
Jesse has worked at Beef Northwest for 22 years, where his job title has remained endlessly evolving. “I started working here in 1994. My job duty was to scrub water tanks and throw out alfalfa bales to incoming cattle. As the years went on I moved into the maintenance department, where I learned how to weld, use a cutting torch and to operate heavy equipment. I also spent a couple of years in the veterinary department and feed mill, learning the daily tasks. However, most of the years with Beef Northwest I have spent as a feeder in the feeding department. Now, I am currently the supervisor for both the feeding and maintenance departments.”
Jesse explains that as a BNW employee, he enjoys many facets of coming to work every day: “I enjoy all of it! I love working with the people. I enjoy the everyday challenges of the cattle industry. It changes every day.” Jesse proves to be an exceptional employee, with a selfless philosophy on life. “My philosophy as an employee is the same as my philosophy in life: Be a person with integrity… do the right thing especially when there is no one watching. Be Coachable; many people will come into your life with different ideas, listen to all of them, and be a good listener. Don't tell someone they can be a better person but rather show them they can be!”
Beef Northwest is grateful to have a long-term employee of Jesse’s caliber. His positive attitude, and reliable charisma is appreciated by all whom work with him. Jesse has been married for twenty years to his high school sweetheart, Noemi Melendez. Together they have four children: Tyler (21) a senior at Boise State University, Roman (17) a senior at Nyssa High School, Elijah(12) and Jazlene (4).
Beef Northwest is proud to recognize the accomplishments of its employees...on and off the clock!
